Letter 779 from 12.24.2014

Well, it is the Christmas Eve Letter obviously and this is a night I, Dan Gorske, like to stay in and put on the Yule Log on YouTube and open presents that may have come in the mail. A quiet night for me generally.

Shoot. If I ever catch up doing this it'll be a wonder! Hah. Letters 829 and 830 arrived today. Well, Let's see what 779 has to say:

The Apple Glass Building in New York City where the Store is underground.

Joe Cocker dies
The Lady at the Shell Store sells Don a MegaMillions Ticket because she wants him to buy her a car. She sings Christmas Carols with an aire of lunacy.
Mary feeds a smorgasbord to the squirrels. People in urban areas hate squirrels.

Letter 778 from 12.23.2014

Wow. Life just keeps plugging along. I have been scanning letters and re-sizing but not reading them too closely so they are fresh as they go up on this thing. So you will be amply provided for in your daily readings. Hah!
Found some OLD letters from Don from when he would hand write his letters to me. Now I feel I may have to scan a few of those and throw them up on this blog as well at some point.

Don't you feel Lucky?

Don does get out and see stuff. Grand Central Station. That is on my "to see" list when I get to NYC next. I would like to explore that building though. Don just probably blew through it in a nervous rush.
Oh the days of White Christmases gone by!
Donnie dreams of ostriches in the basement? And the McD CEO sends Mary an email saying McDonald's without the Big Mac is like a Cowboy without a Hat.
Don stocks up on Macs as Christmas nears and the place will be closed December 25th.

Letter 777 from 12.22.2014

Hey Readers,
Well the blog here has finally had over 1000 views. From Google+ we are nearing 20K ganders. Don't know how that all works. Guess I should get this on a website and start earning advertising $$ revenue with this kind of loyal readership. We'll see.

Don gets a scare when Buzz Feed posts that apple pies and Big Macs (Oh My!) are to be eliminated from McDonald's menu.

Here we go:
A George Washington Chair near Ground Zero in NYC. His pew actually.
The note on the back of the picture:
The letter. Bad Big Mac news, twelve kittens at the Gorske household, The Packers play football.

The Wisconsin Diet, and Donnie makes a joke!
Misplaced that photo from the Today Show from 2009. It may come back to haunt us as I didn't know what the 2nd photo was and think I may have sent it back. Before scanning and tossing Hahha.

Letter 776 from 12.20.14

So here we are once again. Don will be talking about how cold Wisconsin is for about the next 120 letters or snow (get it? snow?). Anyway, I will add a little blurb here and there as the pix fall into place:

Never made it to Ground Zero after the Fall. Never made it there when those two sterile buildings stood actually.

I have been somewhere around here. There is a Jeff Koontz sculpture to the 9/11 mindset that I came across when I was visiting NYC a few years back to see The Book of Mormon with the original cast (and a travelling buddy). I will try to locate that for you.

Here we go: The Sculpture near Ground Zero:

This was a 6x8 envelope I believe.
Don found this story interesting. So did I but I think I may have read all this before or got it while doing the tour which I have done twice with my dear Albuquerque extended family.

This is Lake Winnebago. I think this is by the Lighthouse in Fond du Lac.

When I was in Wisconsin this past year I visited a friend in Milwaukee and on my way back to Omro I swung into F.D.L. to drive through Lakeside Park and see the Christmas lights. I stopped at the Lighthouse and parked. This is a place where Lover's park and mess around. I heard ducks while I was there with my window rolled down. It was a still evening.

If you need to see what Mary looks like I guess you could go to Dwyer & Mike's website or whatever.
Historical Moment! Big Macs go down in price by twenty cents!!! Don takes note.

Mayhem likes Sugar Cookies.

Letter 775 from 12.19.2015

So it was Oscar night and now we have more movies to go out and see. Or look forward to renting and viewing at home. Congratulations to the winners and all the runners up!

Donnie's Jury Selection tee-shirt:

A Thanksgiving picture of Don with his Big Mac.
People ask if Don eats other food on Holidays so here is a picture of his Thanksgiving plate from 2008 I believe.
McDonald's takes out a full page for a deceased CEO of the corporation:
Not a big Taylor Swift fan but here is an insert from Donnie about '1989':
Yay Madonna
 Waffle House humor:

Letter 774 from 12.18.2014

Well, we are zeroing in on Christmas 2014 so I am including some back-shots of the envelopes that Donnie sends his letters in on some of these entries 'aight?

Looks like a scene out of the movie Birdman
Poor Forest Mall. I tell ya, they oughta put in a Skate Park, putt-putt, archery something in that Dead Zone. Oh and thanks Don for picking this article up off your floor finally, Hah!

 Wisconsin's stupid State Budget.
Donnie gets a gnarly look from a squirrel. Hah.

Guess Mister Thurston was one of the Packer Nation originals. The name makes me think of Thurston Howell the III from Gilligan's Island.

Letter 773 from 12.17.2014

Hello.

Donnie's pool room. He likes cheerleaders I think.

All the inserts are rather large today. They read very easily.

Hahah.

Sheesh! Detroit is dark and scary enough let alone having a power failure!
San Francisco has a plethora of those V-shaped buildings going up along Market Street of late.
Ah progress, that is why the town was dark in spots.

Letter 772 from December 16th 2014

That is a picture of me, your blogger, when I was in the Air Force Basic Training Camp in 1976. It was a pic from one of those photo booths where you get 4 pix for a quarter or fifty cents. Donnie loved that picture.
There was another cartoon behind this one but pretty sure Donnie meant this one as he puts this comic in his letters quite often.
Wow Dad woulda been 100 years old today.
Don lets Mary use his Christmas gift wrap.
Don runs across a released inmate from Waupun and shares a some words of wisdom with him before leaving. Hahah.

Letter 771 from 12.15.2014

Well hey there, this letter is a bit of a downer. Not the part about the rain in the West Coast, that is welcome. I wonder why we have a Keystone Pipeline for oil which is 10 dollars a barrel these days but we can't pipe water to places that need it. What a weird world we live in.
Picture where some outta control car backing up quickly scared Donnie while he was raking or something in the road at Gideon's house. (2008)
oh, early 2009. Guess we are moving up in the throw away photos.
 Letter 771
The original Packers are getting old. Dying even. That is life. A new era is upon us.
The stop sign where the semi-drive had his heart attack and went off into the field near Don and Mary's and then died appears to be spooked.
 Bart Starr was amazing!

Later.
