My brother Don is the Guinness Record holder for having eaten the most Big Mac sandwiches of anyone else in the world. The count is currently in the 27,000+ range and grows typically at 2 per day. He goes to McDonald's and usually purchases 8 and four parfaits (they have yogurt in them). They are then wrapped in plastic and I think he probably micro-waves them. The parfaits are at his wife Mary's request that he get some good bacteria in there with those sandwiches.
Don has always written letters to me since my Mom's passing a few decades ago. Something about a promise he made to her about keeping in touch with the family after she was gone. The letters were pretty frequent; even while he was working sometimes 80+ hours/week at the various jobs he has held over the years. When he finally retired from his last job, the letters started increasing to two, three or four and sometimes five per week. It was a bit unnerving at first and even now I sometimes let them build up and read them all in one sitting. Still, getting something in my mailbox a couple times a week that isn't junk or political stuff (during election season) is kind of a bright spot in my day one could say.
When people I work with found out Donnie was my brother, they didn't believe me necessarily. It happens when I talk to folks. For some reason they think I am not telling the truth. Little do they know that us Gorske's don't do lies. When Don said he was coming through the Bay Area to watch the Brewers play the Giants, I asked if he'd be willing to stop by my job and eat a Big Mac with the bunch of us and take some photos for proof that he was who they thought he was. That went over pretty well and it was after that, I started posting interesting letters from him in our break-room. From there came the suggestion from several that I start a blog of his letters and that way they won't be left hanging until I pin another bunch of them on the bulletin board.
Well, I had to get Donnie's approval first and after we got that all settled it was up to me to start this thing and get it going. I really have no idea how this is all going to work out but I will give it a shot. Once the idea for creating the blog started formulating, I began saving his letters (which I typically throw in the recycling). They number in the 700's. I asked Don to start numbering them outside the envelope as they sometimes arrive all at once and I prefer to open them in their proper sequence.
You can find basic information about my brother by doing a Google search but these letters will give you a different perspective on who he is, his sense of humor and what bugs him or brings him down. He's a sports guy, admits to being OCD (obsessively compulsive), helps out a lot of people and is a giving guy. He is not Jerrod from SubWay by any means.
He was in Morgan Spurlock's SuperSize Me Documentary and been on numerous radio talk shows, television talk and game shows. His current possible game show appearance may be on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? We'll see if that pans out.
He's written a book called: 22,477 Big Macs. It is a book filled with numbers and facts and trivia that only he could possibly remember. He is the publisher so the book has a low distribution factor since they cost him 40 bucks or some stupid amount to get made. He does drop them off at schools and local libraries in Wisconsin and gives me a couple once in awhile so I can say that I have read it.
So that is the intro. Let's get to the letters which I will organize and start inputting and we'll see how all this goes. He sends news articles and clippings of stuff so I will have to figure out all that but hey!, it's a blog and it'll all get happening soon enough. Here's hope that you will find them interesting. Thanks for reading.
